Chair Lifts

Chair Lifts

Chair lift is a type of aerial tram that carries the passengers from one terminal to another. It is commonly used in ski resorts, amusement parks, tourists spots, and more recently in urban transportation.

This transport system consists of several chairs or benches attached to a steel cable. The cable on the other hand, is connected to various poles, which then lifts the cables and the chairs off the ground. At the end of the cable system is a type of mechanism that slowly revolves and circulates the chairs in one direction.

Chairlifts differs when it comes to the size, the length of the ropeway, and speed.

The two-person chair is one of the most popular types of chairlift. It is often used in various ski resorts as well as amusement parks. A carrier of this size can operate with a speed of about 2.5 meter/ second.

The four-person carrier is also a common type of chairlift. It can transport up to 2400 passengers every hour. It also has a rope speed of 5 m/s.

Some chairlifts systems feature a bi or tri tramway, which helps them operate at much higher speeds. In fact, the fastest lift can carry people with a speed of 12 m/ s or roughly about 43 kilometers/ hour.

Chairlifts are very popular in ski resorts. Today however, many countries are utilizing this efficient lift system as a part of their public utility transport.
